MANILA, Philippines — The Bureau of Immigration (BI) is deporting a Japanese fugitive wanted for trafficking Filipina nightclub entertainers to his country.

BI Commissioner Ricardo David Jr. said Teruaki Nasu, 61, is now detained at the BI jail in Bicutan, Taguig following his arrest two weeks ago in San Pedro City, Laguna.

ANOTHER batch of 11 overseas Filipino workers from conflict-torn Syria arrived yesterday at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA).       

Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) chief Carmelita Dimzon said the repatriated workers, who arrived at around 4 p.m., have availed of the mandatory repatriation program offered by the government through the Philippine Embassy in Damascus as it raised alert level number 4 in December last year. 

The government has lifted the ban on the deployment of overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) to Nigeria, Libya and South Sudan.

Labor Secretary Rosalinda Baldoz said Thursday that the governing board of the Philippine Overseas Employment Administration (POEA) issued  three separate resolutions lifting the ban on deployment to the three African countries.
