THE Department of Foreign Affairs yesterday said it will negotiate with the Saudi Arabian government for the speedy repatriation of 2,235 undocumented overseas Filipino workers who are camped outside the Philippine consulate in Jeddah.
Foreign Affairs spokesman Raul Hernandez said government will ask Saudi Arabia for the waiver of certain requirements like the no-objection certificate from employers who can no longer be contacted.

Immigration officers at the international airport in Cebu intercepted two suspected human trafficking victims as they attempted to leave with their visas and tickets hidden inside a tissue paper.
Immigration Commissioner Ricardo David said that the two female passengers were apprehended before they could board a Philippine Airlines Express flight to Hong Kong.

BRUSSELS—The European Union (EU) on Monday took to task its member-states for not implementing new rules on human trafficking, as a report revealed that convictions of traffickers have been in decline even though the number of victims is on the rise.
“As we speak, men, women and children are being sold for sex, hard labor.... They are forced into marriages, domestic servitude, begging or have their organs removed for trade,” EU Home Affairs Commissioner Cecilia Malmstrom noted.
