Landmark Case sa Canada: Human Trafficking, Ikinasa ng Pinay sa Amo

Nakaladkad sa kasong human trafficking ang isang Vancouver couple matapos na umano’y bitbitin sa Canada ang isang Filipino household service worker (HSW) mula sa Hong Kong at inalipin nang ilang taon.

Sa ulat ng CBC News, nahaharap sa kasong human trafficking ang mag-asawang Franco Orr at Nicole Huen bunsod ng iregularidad sa pag-empleyo sa Pinay na si Leticia Sarmiento.

Legarda Calls for Strict Implementation of Law Against Human Trafficking

Sen. Loren Legarda yesterday called for a stricter implementation of the country's laws against human trafficking following a recent international news item which cited the Philippines as among those with a high incidence of such crime.

Legarda cited a CNN documentary which featured prostitution and cybersex as among the common forms of human trafficking acts in the Philippines, with minors being convinced to engage in such trade as they are promised with good income and a better life.

National Police Considers Closure of Anti-Human Trafficking Unit

THE Philippine National Police (PNP) Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) is thinking of closing its operating unit that is on the forefront of the government's campaign against human trafficking and prostitution.

The CIDG will be submitting a proposal, a 'draft' of which was seen by The Manila Times, to the PNP higher headquarters recommending for the deactivation of the unit's Women and Children's Concern Division (WCCD).
