Report in real-time suspected human trafficking activities with the option of attaching photographs and videos as evidence. The identities of the users will be treated with utmost confidentiality. They will also have access to information and news updates about human trafficking and directory of IACAT member agencies.

 

Nakaladkad sa kasong human trafficking ang isang Vancouver couple matapos na umano’y bitbitin sa Canada ang isang Filipino household service worker (HSW) mula sa Hong Kong at inalipin nang ilang taon.

Sa ulat ng CBC News, nahaharap sa kasong human trafficking ang mag-asawang Franco Orr at Nicole Huen bunsod ng iregularidad sa pag-empleyo sa Pinay na si Leticia Sarmiento.

Itinuturing na landmark case ang pagsasampa ng kaso ng Pinay laban sa kanyang mga amo, sa ilalim ng Immigration Act sa Canada.

Naghain ng not guilty plea ang Vancouver couple pero kapag na-convict ay mahaharap sa maximum fine na $1M, life imprisonment o sa parehong parusa.

Napaiyak ang Pinay nang isalaysay ang mapait na karanasan sa B.C. Supreme Court jury nitong Huwebes, Mayo 30.

Inihayag nito kung paano siya naloko nang pangakuan na makakapagtrabaho ng dalawang taon at pagkatapos nito ay magiging permanent resident.

Nabatid na si Sarmiento ay may tatlong anak sa Pilipinas.

Puwersahan umanong pinagtatrabaho nang walang day-off, walang overtime at kinumpiska rin ang pasaporte ng Pinay.

Sinabi naman ni Naomi Krueger, manager ng De­borah’s Gate Safe House, na ang naturang kaso ay nagpapakita lamang kung paano ini-exploit o inaabuso ang mga dayuhang nanny sa Canada.

“She’s one of the most courageous women I know. She’s somebody who has a lot of internal strength. She has survived a significant amount of exploitation,” ani Krueger.

Naka-schedule na magtatagal ang paglilitis sa loob ng tatlong linggo.
