A TOTAL of 43 overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) who were repatriated from Kuwait arrived yesterday at the NAIA Terminal 1 with different sad tales of their ordeal in the said country.
They were met at the airport by a team from the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration(OWWA) led by its chief, Carmelita Dimzon, who said that all necessary assistance will beextended to the said OFWs.
Dimzon has ordered the OWWA repatriation team at the airport to provide the OFWs assistance in going through immigration and customs formalities.
“The all-female household service workers will be oriented on the government’s P2-B Reintegration Program specifically the ‘Balik Pinas, Balik Hanapbuhay’ Program and the Livelihood Assistance Program,” she said.
Under the “Balik Pinas, Balik Hanapbuhay” scheme, the skills of the returning OFWs will be ascertained and then they will be trained to be self-sufficient, self-reliant and gainfully employed.
Dimzon said that the returning workers will also have the option to undergo basicentrepreneurship through the Livelihood Assistance Program to start their own micro-businesses. DOLE-OWWA will monitor the progress of their business venture.
The repatriates were offered temporary shelter at the OWWA Halfway Home and will be assisted with their transportation needs for their onward travel to their respective provinces. A stress debriefing and counseling will also be conducted for them.
