Manila, Philippines – A new batch of 10 Filipinos from Syria who availed of the Philippine Government’s offer of repatriation arrived home in the country on Friday night, the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) said.
According to the DFA, the latest batch of repatriates from the strife-ridden nation arrived at Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) on board Thai Airways flight TG 624.
The Philippine Embassy in Damascus negotiated with the Filipinos’ Syrian employers and with Syrian authorities for the issuance of their exit visas.
The Filipinos, all female, stayed at the Embassy’s halfway house while negotiations were ongoing.
As of yesterday, the Embassy has repatriated some 1,161 Filipinos from Syria. “Crisis alert level 4 is currently in place over Syria and the mandatory evacuation of all Filipinos in the country is underway,“ the DFA said. (Ellson Quismorio)
